Recap: Deer Trail Eagles vs. Limon Badgers
The Deer Trail Eagles struggled with assists on Saturday (the Limon Badgers had eight more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Deer Trail ended up on the wrong side of a rough 48-25 walloping at the hands of Limon. While losing is never fun, Deer Trail can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 258th, while Limon is ranked 74th).
Deer Trail's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Megan Donovan, who scored four points along with nine steals and eight rebounds. Donovan hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Ally Hardwick, who scored nine points along with six rebounds and five steals.
Limon's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jentri Marx, who scored 12 points along with nine rebounds and five steals. Marx hasn't dropped below two steals for ten straight games. Another player making a difference was Katelyn Tacha, who scored nine points along with five steals.
Deer Trail has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season. As for Limon, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Deer Trail will challenge Bethune at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Bethune is out to stop a four-game streak of losses at home. As for Limon, they will head out on the road to challenge Simla at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Simla is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
