Softball Game Preview: Tooele Buffaloes vs. West Jordan Jaguars

The Tooele Buffaloes will head out to take on the West Jordan Jaguars at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Tooele has given up an average of 8.1 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Tooele fell victim to Mountain Ridge and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 17-0 to the Sentinels. The Buffaloes have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for West Jordan, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They came out on top against Taylorsville by a score of 6-2 on Wednesday. The victory continues a trend for the Jaguars in their matchups with the Warriors: they've now won three in a row.

Rita Tavita made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Tavita was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Arianna Fjeldsted, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. Lexy Taylor also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Tooele's loss dropped their record down to 5-9. As for West Jordan, their record is now 9-3.

Friday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Tooele hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .314. However, it's not like West Jordan struggles in that department as they've averaged .375. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Everything went Tooele's way against West Jordan when the teams last played back in May of 2023, as Tooele made off with an 11-4 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Buffaloes since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
