The Oxford Prep Griffins will head out to challenge the Kerr-Vance Academy Spartans at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Oxford Prep will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.
On Wednesday, Oxford Prep needed a bit of extra time to put away Falls Lake. They came out on top against the Firebirds by a score of 7-4. Seven seems to be a good number for the Griffins as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Jayce Elliott was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hunter Woodlief, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Gaige Riddle was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Kerr-Vance Academy). They blew past Cape Fear Christian Academy 12-2 last Thursday. The Spartans not only won last Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since May 7, 2024.
Like Oxford Prep, Kerr-Vance Academy also got a great game from a two-way player: Thomas Wilson. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). Wilson was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3. What's more, he posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, MJ Wright was incredible, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Mason Richardson also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Kerr-Vance Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .645. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Oxford Prep's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-2. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Kerr-Vance Academy, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-7.
Everything went Oxford Prep's way against Kerr-Vance Academy when the teams last played back in February, as Oxford Prep made off with a 13-2 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Griffins since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
