Soccer Recap: Otay Ranch Takes a Loss

Otay Ranch lost against Mater Dei Catholic back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Otay Ranch Mustangs took a 4-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mater Dei Catholic Crusaders. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 397th, while the Crusaders are ranked 76th).

Hiram Mora and Esteban Gonzalez scored both of Otay Ranch's goals, bringing their combined season tally to 25 goals.

Otay Ranch's defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 1-1-1 and their overall record down to 7-6-7. As for Mater Dei Catholic, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-1-3 record this season.

Otay Ranch will take on Chula Vista at 3:30 p.m. on February 6th. Otay Ranch is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 2.6 goals per game this season. Mater Dei Catholic has already played their next contest (against Castle Park), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
