Volleyball Recap: Coronado Comes Up Short in High-Profile Game with Cheyenne Mountain

Coronado faced Cheyenne Mountain in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Cougars fell just short of the Red-Tailed Hawks by a score of 3-2. The Cougars were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Red-Tailed Hawks earlier this season, when they won 3-0.

In a back-and-forth that saw neither team win consecutive sets, Coronado sadly dropped the once that decided the match. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-16, 18-25, 25-23, 15-25, 15-9.

Gavin Mason paced Coronado's offense, picking up 27 kills. Mason got some help from Paolo Piuma and his 50 assists. Finally, Sebastian Steger kept Coronado's defense grounded, leading the team with six blocks.

Coronado has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 19-4 record this season. As for Cheyenne Mountain, they pushed their record up to 17-6 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home.
