Basketball Recap: Dana Pena's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Douglas over Mingus

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Douglas couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They fell 59-46 to the Mingus Marauders on Thursday. The Bulldogs have been going strong on the season, but this is now their second loss in a row.

Several Bulldogs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Dana Pena, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and 14 boards. The dominant performance gave Pena a new career-high in rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Francia Rubio, who posted 17 points in addition to seven boards and five steals.

Mingus found their leader in sophomore Savannah Tobias, who dropped a double-double with 24 points and ten rebounds. Tobias is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 54 games she's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Alice Kinsey, who had eight points along with 25 boards and three steals.

Douglas' defeat dropped their record down to 23-5. As for Mingus, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 21-7.

Douglas does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Mingus, they have already played their next match, a 62-59 win against Mica Mountain on the 1st.
