Basketball Recap: South El Monte's Luck Changes for the Better on Monday

South El Monte's game last Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. They secured a 42-36 W over the El Monte Lions. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Eagles as it put an end to their seven-game losing streak.

South El Monte was led to victory by Eli Lopez and Nathan Oros. Lopez went 5 of 8 en route to 17 points, while Oros went 5 of 8 on his way to 11 points and eight rebounds. The contest was Lopez's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Minor, who posted three points.

South El Monte's victory bumped their record up to 2-9. As for El Monte, their defeat was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-10.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. South El Monte will take on La Puente in a holiday battle at at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. El Monte and Arroyo will compete for holiday cheer at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
