Basketball Game Preview: Brewer Bears vs. Granbury Pirates

The Brewer Bears will take on the Granbury Pirates at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Brewer sitting on five straight wins and Granbury on four.

On Tuesday, Brewer beat Saginaw 47-37. Given the Bears' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 98th, while the Rough Riders are ranked 572nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Granbury strolled past Azle with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 43-24.

Granbury is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 27.8 points per game. As for Brewer, they pushed their record up to 17-8 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road.

Everything came up roses for Brewer against Granbury in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, as the squad secured a 72-33 win. Will Brewer repeat their success, or does Granbury have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
