Softball Recap: Derby Red Raiders vs. Ansonia Chargers

Derby extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to eight on Saturday, dropping them down to 0-7. They came up short against the Ansonia Chargers, falling 16-4. The Red Raiders were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Chargers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2025.

Skylar Anderson made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs. Those runs marked the first that she has scored this season.

As for Ansonia, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 4-3. Considering they have won four matchups by more than 11 runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

On Ansonia's side, Triston Ahearn made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off ten hits (and not a single walk). Ahearn has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs.

In other batting news, Ansonia got a massive performance out of Jaida Brown, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, four runs, and three RBI. With that strong performance, Brown is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. Molly Lynch was another key player, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Derby is set to challenge their familiar foe Woodland Regional at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Ansonia will take on rival Crosby at 3:30 p.m. on Monday.
