Baseball Game Preview: Torres Toros vs. Jefferson Democrats

The Torres Toros will square off against the Jefferson Democrats at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Jefferson will be up against a hot Torres team: the squad just extended their winning streak to six. Torres' pitchers stepped up to hand Elizabeth a 10-0 shutout on Friday.

Fernando Flores Ruiz and Robert Vargas made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Flores Ruiz tossed 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Vargas pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Flores Ruiz has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. At bat, Flores Ruiz scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Vargas went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

In other batting news, Jouse Solis Rojas was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times he's played. Angel Tostado was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Torres always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. The last time their OBP was this high was back in May of 2024.

Meanwhile, Jefferson made easy work of Diego Rivera on Friday and carried off an 11-0 win. The Democrats have beaten the Huskies the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Huskies has come to flipping the script.

Torres' victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.2 runs over those games. As for Jefferson, their victory bumped their record up to 5-1.
