Softball Recap: Goochland Comes Up Short

Goochland lost against Fluvanna County back in April, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Bulldogs fell just short of the Flying Flucos by a score of 4-3. The Bulldogs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Riley McCain put in work no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 6.2 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. McCain was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Kyndall Shapiro was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one double. That triple was her first of the season.

Goochland's loss dropped their record down to 9-8. As for Fluvanna County, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Goochland will square off against Western Albemarle at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Warriors have averaged an impressive 8.6 runs per game this season. As for Fluvanna County, they will take on Monticello at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Mustangs' pitching crew has only allowed 1.3 runs per game this season, so the Flying Flucos' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
