Basketball Recap: Jayden Oriedetu's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Banff over Central Christian Academy

Banff was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 66-61 heartbreaker at the hands of the Central Christian Academy Cougars. The Bears were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cougars apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Banff lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Jayden Oriedetu, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and 20 boards. With that strong performance, Oriedetu is now averaging an impressive 2.2 blocks per game. Issac Sumpter was another key player, dropping a triple-double on 14 points, 15 rebounds, and 11 blocks.

Even though they lost, Banff smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 27 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 17 offensive rebounds in five consecutive games.

Banff's defeat dropped their record down to 2-13. As for Central Christian Academy, they moved to 1-2 with that victory, which also ended their nine-game losing streak.

Banff will challenge Texas Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Central Christian Academy, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Banff at 5:30 p.m. on February 13th.
