Baseball Recap: St. Maries Takes a Loss

If St. Maries was feeling good fresh off their 15-6 takedown of Grangeville on Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Lumberjacks took a 10-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bulldogs on Saturday. The Lumberjacks were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bulldogs earlier this season, when they won 15-6.

Sawyer Nantell and William Durham did some serious damage despite the final result: Nantell got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Durham went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Nantell is becoming a predictor of St. Maries' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 1-6 when he doesn't). Wyatt Stewert also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

St. Maries has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season. As for Grangeville, their victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-6 and their overall record up to 3-11.

St. Maries has already played their next matchup, a 14-4 defeat against Timberlake on the 21st. As for Grangeville, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 22-2 loss against Orofino on the 21st.
