Baseball Recap: Canyon Comes Up Short

Esperanza hit Canyon with a five-run fifth inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Comanches took a 7-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Aztecs. The Comanches were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Aztecs apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2025.

Canyon saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was John Somerndike, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base. Cooper Stevenson was another, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

Canyon's defeat dropped their record down to 10-10. As for Esperanza, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-9 record this season.

Canyon will face off against Pacifica at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The Mariners' pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so the Comanches' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Esperanza, they will challenge Bosco Tech at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The Aztecs are facing the Tigers at the right time seeing as the Tigers are stuck on an 11-game losing streak.
