            Softball Recap: Mt. Shasta Bears vs. Weed Cougars        
        
		
        
        
            Mt. Shasta proved they can win big  on Wednesday (they won by 15) and  on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a  victory as the  squad sidled past the Weed Cougars  9-8. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won  18-3  on Wednesday.

 Kaley Lanier was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She  struck out eight batters over  seven innings while giving up  four earned  (and four unearned) runs off   13  hits. That's the most  strikeouts  she has posted since back in March of 2024. She was even better at the plate,  scoring three  runs and  stealing three bases while going 1-for-3. Lanier is  crushing it when it comes to  stolen bases: she's   snagged at least one every time she's  taken the field this season.
 In other batting news,  Kaira Rekhi and  Emily Pigoni did most of the damage at the plate:  Rekhi  scored two  runs and  stole two bases while going 2-for-4, while  Pigoni  scored two  runs and  stole a base while going 3-for-4. Rekhi is  on a roll when it comes to  stolen bases, as she's  now  snagged  at least one in each of the last ten games she's  played dating back to last season.  Gracie Heile was another key player,  scoring two  runs while going 2-for-4.
Mt. Shasta is  on a roll lately: they've  won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-5-1 record  this season. Those  wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as  they  averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Weed, their loss was  their fourth straight on the road, which  dropped their record down to 2-13-1.
 Mt. Shasta didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next  contest,  an  18-0  victory against Fall River on the 11th. As for Weed, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next  matchup,  a  20-0  defeat against Hoopa Valley on the 14th.
