Softball Recap: Wilmington Snaps Four-Game Streak of Wins at Home

After flying high against Reynolds on Wednesday, Wilmington came back down to earth. The Greyhounds fell 7-4 to the Mercer Mustangs on Friday. The Greyhounds were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Mustangs earlier this season, when they won 10-7.

Wilmington saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Avery Harlan, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Skylar Leishman was another, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one RBI.

Wilmington's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-4. As for Mercer, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wilmington will square off against Laurel at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Greyhounds' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Spartans have averaged an impressive 9.8 runs per game this season. As for Mercer, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Reynolds at 4:15 p.m. on the 13th.
