Preview: Illinois Valley vs. St. Mary's

St. Mary's (3-3) squares off against Illinois Valley (3-4) this Friday at 7:00 PM. Illinois Valley will be looking to take advantage of a struggling St. Mary's defense that has allowed an average of 29 points per game.

After flying high the game before (61 points), St. Mary's faltered in its previous match. It received a tough blow as it fell 26 - 7 to Clatskanie. The defeat came about despite a quality game from junior Gavin Rajagopal, who ran for 94 yards and also punched in one touchdown. Rajagopal has been a consistent playmaker for St. Mary's as this was the 4th good game in a row from him. Meanwhile, Illinois Valley had a rough outing against Jefferson last week, losing 61 - 19.

The last time they met, St. Mary's really took it to Illinois Valley, winning 49 - 7. St. Mary's had a lot of yards that game (405) and will likely be setting its aim high again. The rematch might be a little tougher for it since the team will be on Illinois Valley's home field this time. We'll soon find out whether that makes a difference or not.
