Basketball Recap: Conneaut Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

Conneaut and Villa Angela-St. Joseph squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Conneaut had to settle for second. They took a blow against the Villa Angela-St. Joseph Vikings, falling 74-36. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 675th, while the Vikings are ranked 335th).

Leading Villa Angela-St. Joseph to victory were Elizabeth Dunmire and Sydney Dunmire. Elizabeth went 12-for-25 on her way to 27 points in addition to six boards and five assists, while Sydney went 8-for-11 to rack up 20 points along with six rebounds and five steals. Elizabeth's evening made it six games in a row in which she has scored at least 20 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Cecelia Oriani, who posted eight points and six steals.

Conneaut has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 8-15 record this season. As for Villa Angela-St. Joseph, they pushed their record up to 14-9 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.

Conneaut does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Villa Angela-St. Joseph, they will take on Norton at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Villa Angela-St. Joseph's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three contests.
