Softball Recap: Mt. Vernon Picks Up Eighth Straight Win at Home

Mt. Vernon had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Purdy Eagles a 10-0 shutout. Considering the Mountaineers have won three contests by more than eight runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

The team relied heavily on Madison Rinker, who fired off three triples, two runs, and one RBI while going 3-for-3. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Molly Daniels was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Mt. Vernon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in five consecutive games.

Mt. Vernon pushed their record up to 5-1 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Purdy, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-3.

Mt. Vernon wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 9-4 loss against Diamond on the 25th. As for Purdy, they will take on Mt. Vernon at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
