Baseball Recap: Chapin Finds Home Field Redemption Against Cathedral

There's no place like home for Chapin, who bounced back after a loss on the road two weeks ago. They blew past the Cathedral Fighting Irish 9-1 on Wednesday. That's more bragging rights for the Huskies, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Nathan Hurtado made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. Hurtado was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with four RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Julian Flores, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. He has become a key player for Chapin: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 5-9 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Ozzie Marquez, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Chapin was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cathedral only posted a batting average of .214.

Chapin's win bumped their record up to 7-10. As for Cathedral, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-7-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Chapin will venture away from home to take on El Paso at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The contest will give Chapin their first taste of in-conferenceaction this season. As for Cathedral, they are taking a road trip to face off against Clint at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
