Basketball Game Preview: Nooksack Valley Pioneers vs. Mt. Baker Mountaineers

The Nooksack Valley Pioneers will face off against the Mt. Baker Mountaineers at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Nooksack Valley has four straight victories, Mt. Baker has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Nooksack Valley is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Thursday as they easily beat Blaine 76-35. Given the Pioneers' advantage in MaxPreps' Washington basketball rankings (they are ranked 141st, while the Borderites are ranked 295th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Mt. Baker ended up a good deal behind Anacortes on Saturday and lost 60-45.

Nooksack Valley is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a massive bump to their 7-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.5 points per game. As for Mt. Baker, their loss dropped their record down to 7-7.

Nooksack Valley strolled past Mt. Baker when the teams last played back in February of 2024 by a score of 66-47. Does Nooksack Valley have another victory up their sleeve, or will Mt. Baker turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
