Mt. Spokane (Mead, Wash.) came into Saturday's contest ranked No. 17 in Washington, but was stunned by
Shadle Park (Spokane, Wash.), 62-35. Shadle Park was ranked at No. 21 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings for Washington coming into the week.
After taking the lead on a touchdown pass by
Brett Rypien in the first quarter, the Highlanders led 49-28 at the half.
Shadle Park grew its lead to 27 points entering the fourth quarter. SP scored two times in the third, including once on a passing touchdown.
Rypien was one of the big reasons the Spokane school got the victory, as he threw six touchdowns.
The Highlanders avenged last year's 28-21 loss to the Wildcats with the victory.
The defeat comes as a step back for Mt. Spokane, which notched a 10-0 victory over Mead in its previous outing. With the win Shadle Park extended its winning streak to three games.
Mt. Spokane (4-1) goes up against Ferris in a 3A/4A Greater Spokane game matchup next week, while Shadle Park (4-1) locks horns with Mead also in a 3A/4A Greater Spokane game.
