Basketball Recap: Greer Middle College Blazers vs. Blacksburg Wildcats
The Greer Middle College Blazers lost against the Blacksburg Wildcats back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Greer Middle College had to suffer through a rough 65-21 loss at the hands of the Wildcats. While losing is never fun, Greer Middle College can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 248th, while the Wildcats are ranked 105th).
It was another big night for Shyrique Parker, who dropped a double-double on 28 points and 12 rebounds for Blacksburg. Parker is crushing the point category: she's posted at least 16 every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Tessner, who scored eight points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Greer Middle College dropped their record down to 5-15 with that defeat, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 23.8 points per game. As for Blacksburg, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-10 record this season.
Greer Middle College will be playing at home against the Cardinals at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Landrum is coming into the match hot, having won their last five games. As for Blacksburg, they will head out on the road to face off against the Warriors at 6:15 p.m. on Monday. Greenville Tech Charter is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
