Softball Recap: Pope Francis Prep Drops Highest Score of Season Against Springfield Renaissance

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Pope Francis Prep). Everything went their way against Springfield Renaissance on Thursday as they made off with a 35-4 victory. The win continues a trend for the Cardinals in their matchups with Springfield Renaissance: they've now won six in a row.

Misha Lacroix made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Lacroix was even better at the plate, going 4-for-5 with four runs, five RBI, and two doubles. Those four runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Hannah Johnson was a standout: she got on base in all six of her plate appearances with six runs, three RBI, and one triple. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in hits (three). Gianna Percy also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Pope Francis Prep kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 30 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matchups.

Pope Francis Prep pushed their record up to 9-2 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Springfield Renaissance, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pope Francis Prep will host Putnam Vo-Tech at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Cardinals are facing the Beavers at the right time seeing as the Beavers are stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for Springfield Renaissance, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Commerce at 4:00 p.m. Springfield Renaissance's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Red Raiders have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season.
