Football Game Preview: Harrison County Thorobreds/Fillies vs. Newport Wildcats

The Harrison County Thorobreds/Fillies will face off against the Newport Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

As a matter of fact, Harrison County put up the most points they have all season on Friday. They fell just short of Middlesboro by a score of 36-34. The Thorobreds/Fillies' defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it four in a row.

Despite their loss, Harrison County saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Landon Custard, who picked up 137 receiving yards and a pair of scores, was perhaps the best of all. The bulk of those receiving yards came from one huge play: a catch that gained an incredible 73 yards. Tripp Nichols was another key back, rushing for 117 yards and one touchdown on only 12 carries.

Meanwhile, Newport humbled Dayton with a 52-14 victory. Considering the Wildcats have won three contests by more than 28 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Newport now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Harrison County, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-8.

Harrison County came up short against Newport in their previous meeting back in August of 2019, falling 19-14. Can the Thorobreds/Fillies avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
