Softball Recap: Piedmont Panthers vs. West Stanly Colts
It was a good run, but Piedmont unfortunately witnessed the end of their 11-game winning streak on Friday. They fell 6-1 to the West Stanly Colts. Piedmont was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as West Stanly apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played last Thursday.
For West Stanly's part, Lilly Hartsell made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and only two hits while striking out six over seven innings pitched. Hartsell has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in seven consecutive pitching appearances. Hartsell was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
Hartsell wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Madi Whitley, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.
Piedmont's loss dropped their record down to 18-3. As for West Stanly, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 17-9.
