Recap: Flagler Panthers vs. Elbert Bulldogs
The Flagler Panthers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their sixth straight loss. They were beaten by Elbert 77-10. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Flagler in their matchups with Elbert: they've now lost four in a row.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Flagler struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Elbert pulled down 16 offensive rebounds.
Elbert found their leader in underclassman Eli Cornell, who went 7 for 9 from beyond the arc en route to 27 points and 1 assist. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Cornell has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Logan LaFollette, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Flagler dropped their record down to 3-10 with that loss, which was their fourth straight at home. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 15.5 points per game. As for Elbert, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Flagler will take on Kit Carson at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Colorado (Kit Carson is ranked 306th, while Flagler is ranked 310th). As for Elbert, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Pikes Peak Christian at 7:00 p.m. Pikes Peak Christian is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
