On Tuesday, Cocke County faced Sevier County in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Cocke County Fighting Cocks sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 44-42 victory over the Sevier County Smoky Bears. Winning may never get old, but the Fighting Cocks sure are getting used to it with their seventh in a row.

Cocke County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Blakelyn Clevenger led the charge by going 5 for 9 on her way to 16 points. Karmine Carmichael was another key player, putting up ten points and eight rebounds.

Cocke County pushed their record up to 23-6 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.1 points over those games. As for Sevier County, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 22-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cocke County will venture away from home to square off against Greeneville at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Greeneville will roll in looking for their tenth straight victory, something Cocke County surely won't give up without a fight. As for Sevier County, they will take on Oak Ridge at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Oak Ridge's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four contests.
