Basketball Recap: McAllen Memorial Find Success

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but McAllen Memorial had no problem doing just that on Tuesday. They snuck past the Lopez Lobos with a 46-40 victory. The win continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Lobos: they've now won seven in a row.

Eva Villarreal was a one-woman wrecking crew for McAllen Memorial as she dropped a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Those 18 points gave Villarreal a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Mj Banjao, who posted nine points in addition to seven assists and three steals.

McAllen Memorial pushed their record up to 27-11 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.0 points over those games. As for Lopez, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 21-11.

Coming up, McAllen Memorial will look to defend their home court on Friday against Alice at 6:00 p.m. Lopez does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
