Gila Ridge took a six-run loss the last time they faced off against Cibola, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Hawks sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 victory over the Raiders on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Hawks have posted since March 6, 2024.

Malina Peterson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Gila Ridge got a big performance out of Peyton Waymire, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Isabella Burke also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

Gila Ridge's victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 9-4. As for Cibola, their defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 7-12.

Coming up, Cibola will face off against Yuma at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Raiders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Criminals have averaged an impressive 10.7 runs per game this season. Gila Ridge will be paying especially close attention to Cibola's match: after Cibola faces off against Yuma, they'll take on Gila Ridge again at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
