Basketball Recap: Cairo Comes Up Short

Cairo lost against Murphysboro back in December of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Cairo Pilots took a blow against the Murphysboro Red Devils, falling 77-34. While losing is never fun, the Pilots can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 524th, while the Red Devils are ranked 67th).

Cairo has also been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which has put a noticeable dent in their 11-15 record this season. As for Murphysboro, they are on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 16 games, which provided a nice bump to their 23-4 record this season.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Cairo will take on Cobden at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Murphysboro, they will face off against Carterville at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
