Softball Game Preview: Patriot Pioneers vs. Westfield Bulldogs

The Patriot Pioneers will head out on the road to square off against the Westfield Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Patriot knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past three matches -- so hopefully Westfield likes a good challenge.

Patriot is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 21-5 margin over Osbourn on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Pioneers, who have now won four games by ten runs or more so far this season.

Aubrey Shelton was incredible, going 4-for-5 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Allison Day, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Patriot kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 21 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Westfield hadn't done well against South Lakes recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Bulldogs skirted past the Seahawks 4-2. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Bulldogs.

Jaelynn Vinaya and Rylee Schmid did most of the damage at the plate: Vinaya went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI, while Schmid went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Patriot's record is now 7-4. As for Westfield, their record now sits at 6-4.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Patriot hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Westfield struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.1 home runs.
