Basketball Recap: Mt. Vernon Comes Up Short

Mt. Vernon was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their 22nd straight defeat dating back to last season. They were dealt a 57-27 loss at the hands of the Heritage Hills Patriots. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 373rd, while the Patriots are ranked 126th).

Mt. Vernon's loss came despite strong showings from Taylor Ellison and Addison Chilton. Ellison posted ten points, while Chilton scored six points and three steals. The dominant performance gave Ellison a new career-high in points.

Heritage Hills was led to victory by Mayci Litherland and Mia Becher. Litherland earned 15 points and four steals, while Becher went 7 for 12 on her way to 15 points and three steals. Another player making a difference was Hadley Leibering, who had eight points and three steals.

Mt. Vernon's defeat dropped their record down to 0-21. As for Heritage Hills, they pushed their record up to 12-10 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Mt. Vernon does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Heritage Hills, they will take on Evansville Bosse at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Heritage Hills has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
