Baseball Game Preview: Casa Grande Gauchos vs. American Canyon Wolves

The Casa Grande Gauchos will face off against the American Canyon Wolves at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Casa Grande has three straight wins, American Canyon has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Casa Grande proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by six) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 victory over Campolindo.

Danny Mercado made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

Mercado wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Drew Bugbee, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI. That's the most hits Bugbee has posted since back in April of 2024. Jack Mountanos was another, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.

Meanwhile, American Canyon came up short against Vintage on Thursday, falling 13-2.

Casa Grande pushed their record up to 11-2 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for American Canyon, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-8.

Casa Grande couldn't quite finish off American Canyon when the teams last played back in April of 2024 and fell 9-7. Can the Gauchos avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
