Basketball Game Preview: Roosevelt Roughriders vs. Wellington Eagles

The Roosevelt Roughriders will take on the Wellington Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Roosevelt has four straight victories, Wellington has 12 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Roosevelt is headed into the game after thoroughly thrashing Glenwood Springs: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Roosevelt blew Glenwood Springs out of the water with a 61-14 final score. The Roughriders have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight matches by 21 points or more this season.

Roosevelt's win on Saturday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Paige Wright, who went 5 for 7 on her way to 13 points. Ryanne Bahnsen-Price was another key player, going 5 of 8 en route to 14 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals.

Meanwhile, Wellington played a tough contest on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by Thompson Valley and fell 56-16. Wellington was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 33-11.

Wellington's defeat dropped their record down to 1-12. As for Roosevelt, their win bumped their record up to 12-3.

Everything came up roses for Roosevelt against Wellington in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, as the team secured a 73-34 victory. In that game, Roosevelt amassed a halftime lead of 39-12, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
