Baseball Game Preview: Central Catholic Vikings vs. South Fayette Lions

The Central Catholic Vikings will head out on the road to challenge the South Fayette Lions at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Central Catholic has now lost nine straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since the 7th.

Pine-Richland hit Central Catholic with a four-run second inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Vikings fell 6-3 to the Rams. That's two games in a row now that the Vikings have lost by exactly three runs.

Central Catholic got a good showing from Liam Pekarsky, who pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the first time Pekarsky hasn't allowed a single hit since back in March of 2024.

At the plate, Yaniel Heredia was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run. Brady Wilson also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Canon-McMillan typically has all the answers at home, but on Monday South Fayette proved too difficult a challenge. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 victory over the Big Macs. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Lions have posted since April 1st.

Central Catholic's defeat dropped their record down to 4-11. As for South Fayette, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-6.

Central Catholic couldn't quite finish off South Fayette in their previous matchup back in April of 2022 and fell 5-3. Can the Vikings avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
