Preview: Midwood Hornets vs. East New York Family Academy
Midwood has been on the road for two straight, but on Saturday they'll finally head home. They will take on East New York Family Academy at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Midwood will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps New York Rankings (they are ranked 472nd, while East New York Family Academy is ranked 75th).
Midwood suffered their biggest defeat since December 15, 2023 on Sunday. They had to suffer through a rough 54-27 loss at the hands of Summit Academy. Midwood was down 38-18 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.
In what's become a running theme this season, East New York Family Academy gave their fans yet another huge win on Friday. They took their matchup at home with ease, bagging a 82-16 win over Madison. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory East New York Family Academy has posted since December 22, 2023.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead East New York Family Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Arianna Mercado, who scored 23 points along with five rebounds and five steals. Mercado has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last eight times she's played. Olivia Eugene was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with seven steals and six assists.
Midwood has not been sharp recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-10 record this season. As for East New York Family Academy, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season.
