La Costa Canyon is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past El Camino 2-1. Given the Mavericks' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 126th, while the Wildcats are ranked 277th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Skylar Jones and Rayen Pacheco scored both of La Costa Canyon's goals, bringing their combined season tally to six goals.

Meanwhile, Rancho Buena Vista kept a clean sheet against Pacific Ridge on Thursday. They came out on top against the Firebirds by a score of 2-0. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Longhorns.

Rancho Buena Vista's victory bumped their record up to 11-5. As for La Costa Canyon, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-6.
