Springfield hadn't done well against Normal University recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Senators walked away with a 6-2 victory over the Pioneers. For the Senators, this counts as revenge for the 5-0 win the Pioneers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2024.
Mia Volpert made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 15 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024.
Volpert wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Keilyn Howard, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. Another was Erin Stoops, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
The victory made it two in a row for Springfield and bumps their season record up to 7-1. As for Normal University, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-5.
Looking ahead, Springfield will take on Calhoun at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Normal University, they will challenge Rochester at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
