Volleyball Recap: Lamar Thunder vs. Sterling Tigers
Lamar and Sterling squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Lamar had to settle for second. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Tigers. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Thunder of the 2-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in October of 2023.
The final score came out to 25-15, 19-25, 25-16, 25-16.
Mireya Gomez paced Lamar's offense, picking up nine kills. Gomez got some help from Abygail Gonzales and her 20 assists. Keiton Chavira and Alyssa Postma kept things locked in from the service line: the pair finished with two aces apiece.
Lamar's defeat ended an eight-match streak of away wins and brought them to 16-9. As for Sterling, they pushed their record up to 19-6 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home.
Lamar does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Sterling, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 3-0 victory against Gunnison on the 13th.
