Softball Recap: Middletown Comes Up Short

Middletown extended their losing streak to 20 on Wednesday, dropping them down to 1-23. They came up short against the Oak Hills Highlanders, falling 13-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Highlanders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-0 back in April.

As for Oak Hills, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.9 runs on average over those games.

For Oak Hills' part, not much got past Payton Veneman, who gave up just a hit and racked up ten Ks to keep Middletown off the board. Veneman has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Kelsie Schuehler was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Emily Lacock was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.

Coming up, Middletown will take on Lakota West at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Oak Hills, they have already played their next matchup, a 12-2 win against Princeton on the 7th.
