Basketball Recap: Genoa-Hugo/Karval Comes Up Short

Genoa-Hugo/Karval was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They came up short against the Cheraw Wolverines, falling 51-25. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Pirates of the 46-37 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2020.

Despite the loss, Genoa-Hugo/Karval saw an underclassman step up: freshman Ryker Lockhart posted eight points and five steals.

It was another big night for Tim Provost, who dropped a double-double with 19 points and 16 boards for Cheraw. The match was Provost's third in a row with at least 17 points. Another player making a difference was Jacob Herman, who went 5-for-8 on his way to 14 points and five rebounds.

Genoa-Hugo/Karval's defeat dropped their record down to 4-19. As for Cheraw, they pushed their record up to 12-9 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road.

Genoa-Hugo/Karval does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Cheraw, they have already played their next contest, a 47-23 win against Walsh on the 1st.
