Baseball Game Preview: Holy Cross Knights vs. Chaminade Flyers

The Holy Cross Knights will venture away from home to square off against the Chaminade Flyers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Holy Cross hasn't scored more than two runs for three games straight, a trend the team is eager to reverse.

Xaverian hit Holy Cross with a nine-run third inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Knights lost 12-2 to the Clippers.

Meanwhile, Chaminade won against St. Mary's on Tuesday with ten runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Wednesday. The Flyers never let the Gaels get on the board and left with a 10-0 win. The Flyers haven't had any issues with the Gaels recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Carlos Pereira tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out six over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Chaminade is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 8-9 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Connor Meehan was a standout: he went 1-for-2 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Michael Gardner, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.

Chaminade lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Holy Cross' defeat dropped their record down to 3-10. As for Chaminade, the win got them back to even at 10-10.

Holy Cross suffered a grim 11-0 defeat to Chaminade in their previous meeting back in April of 2023. Can the Knights avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
