Baseball Recap: Rockford Comes Up Short

Rockford extended their losing streak to five on Wednesday, dropping them down to 5-7. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Watertown-Mayer Royals. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Rockets couldn't push the score so high this time.

Rockford saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Owen Schuster, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one double.

As for Watertown-Mayer, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 7 runs in those games.

On Watertown-Mayer's side, Noah Weinzierl made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over 5.1 innings pitched. Weinzierl was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2025.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Rockford will face off against New London-Spicer at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Watertown-Mayer, they will challenge Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Lakers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.67 runs per game on average), something the Royals will no doubt try to take advantage of.
