Softball Recap: Columbia Central Comes Up Short

Columbia Central saw some tournament action on Saturday. They fell just short of the Howell Highlanders by a score of 8-7. The Golden Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Hailey Wetherby spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and three unearned) runs on four hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Rylee Knapp was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Kelsey Fausz, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Columbia Central's loss dropped their record down to 11-2. As for Howell, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 19-11-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Columbia Central will host Michigan Center at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Howell, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Hartland at 4:00 p.m.
