Soccer Game Preview: Alamo Heights vs. Smithson Valley

The Alamo Heights Mules will head out to take on the Smithson Valley Rangers at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

If Smithson Valley heads into halftime all tied up, they better play a good second half: that's when Alamo Heights took over last week. Alamo Heights never let Veterans Memorial onto the board and left with a 3-0 win on Tuesday. The victory continues a trend for the Mules in their matchups with the Patriots: they've now won seven in a row.

Meanwhile, Smithson Valley had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.3 goals) and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Chargers as they made off with a 4-0 win. The Rangers' defense has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a goal in their last four games.

Smithson Valley pushed their record up to 9-4 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up zero goals over those three matchups. As for Alamo Heights, their win bumped their record up to 11-5.

Alamo Heights came up short against Smithson Valley in their previous matchup back in January, falling 3-1. Can Alamo Heights avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
