Basketball Recap: Harlingen Comes Up Short

Harlingen entered their contest against La Joya on Friday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Cardinals fell 69-60 to the Coyotes. The Cardinals were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Coyotes apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2025.

Leading La Joya to victory were Aydin Wilder-Bey and Anthony Romero. Wilder-Bey dropped a double-double with 24 points and ten boards, while Romero went 11-for-20 to rack up 28 points and eight rebounds. That's the most points Romero has posted since back in November of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Miguel Garcia, who earned nine points.

Harlingen suffered their first home loss, dropping their record down to 18-7. As for La Joya, their record is now 10-14.

Harlingen didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 72-39 win against STX on the 5th. As for La Joya, they will face off against San Benito at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
