Baseball Recap: Battle Mountain Takes a Loss

Battle Mountain had lost four straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 8-9 to make it five. They lost 15-6 to the Steamboat Springs Sailors. The Huskies were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Sailors earlier this season, when they won 8-5.

Zach Irwin was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. Shaeffer Dodds8 was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.

As for Steamboat Springs, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-9 record this season. The result was nothing new for Steamboat Springs, who have now won six contests by nine runs or more so far this season.

On Steamboat Springs' side, Damien Dobson made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Dobson also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Steamboat Springs is 4-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 7-8 otherwise. Dobson was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs.

In other batting news, Tanner Cobb was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three doubles, and three RBI. Steamboat Springs is undefeated when Cobb posts two or more runs, but 6-9 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Rickey Hernandez, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and one triple.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Battle Mountain will take on Eagle Valley at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Huskies' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Devils have averaged an impressive 7.3 runs per game this season. As for Steamboat Springs, they will square off against Summit at 2:00 p.m. on Friday.
