Recap: George Washington Patriots vs. Denver East Angels
The George Washington Patriots posted their closest victory since January 4th on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Denver East 63-60. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead George Washington to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tre Borne, who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds and six assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeremiah Trimm, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and four steals.
When it comes to explaining why Denver East lost, one person who can't be blamed is Maurice Fulcher. Despite the final result, he scored 27 points along with five steals. Fulcher continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. James Murray was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
George Washington has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-8 record this season. As for Denver East, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-10.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. George Washington will square off against Northfield at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Northfield's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season. As for Denver East, they will head out on the road to take on Thomas Jefferson at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Thomas Jefferson focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 last Thursday.
