Softball Game Preview: Iowa Yellowjackets vs. North Vermilion Patriots

The Iowa Yellowjackets will challenge the North Vermilion Patriots on Wednesday. Iowa is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.8 runs per game this season.

Iowa took a loss when they played away from home last Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They walked away with a 7-3 victory over DeQuincy. The win continues a trend for the Yellowjackets in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won three in a row.

Ayla Stollsteimer was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.

In other batting news, Morgan Henry was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Allie Darbonne, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Iowa hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as DeQuincy struck out six times.

Meanwhile, it can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but North Vermilion had no problem doing just that on Saturday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Tigers an 11-0 shutout. The high-scoring effort was just what the Patriots needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.

North Vermilion's victory bumped their record up to 11-16. As for Iowa, their win bumped their record up to 24-10.
